The PhD graduation ceremony was held on Friday, June 26th at the Salle des Colonnes, in the Chateau of Fontainebleau. Interestingly it was in this very room that the Founders of INSEAD had their meeting of minds, which resulted in the establishment of the global business school. The first INSEAD classes also happened in a room in the chateau.
There were 7 graduates this year. The keynote speaker was Professor How Lee from Stanford Business School. The ceremony was followed by a typical 5 course French meal, at one of the best restaurants in Fontainebleau, The Napoleon.
As 'Congratulations' were being called out and graduation caps thrown into the air, one could sense a huge sense of relief amongst the students and their families. As Joe pointed out in his speech, it was like the 'crossing of a milestone of sorts'. Though Kanchan admitted he didn't know whether he should be happy or sad, as he had enjoyed the process immensely and would love to do it again if the opportunity arose.
Meanwhile, back at home things have been terribly hectic. Immigration papers have arrived, our stuff has been shipped to Singapore, much of the items we owned have been sold, Urvi had her 'graduation' last Thursday, gifts have been exchanged and amidst hugs and tearful farewells the reality of our departure is begining to dawn.
We feel a need to take a break from it all...so we are off to Geneva to Somu da's place for 4 days.

Congratulations to Kanchan! I miss my graduate school days, but it is nice to be done and get on with my life. I wish you the very best for your move to Singapore.
